Bad Science

I have been reading this week a shocking book called Bad Science by Ben Goldacre.  Wow, all I can say is this book is a huge wake up call for anyone who has subscribed to the alternative health side of things for healing ailments or keeping one healthy.  What is a shame is how the media, pharmaceutical industry, famous nutritionists and the alternative health industry are cherry picking information from studies, trials and tests. They then promote the science behind therapies, drug effects and nutritional information as fact when if someone like Ben Goldacre takes the time to do the research to see if true…finds it to be highly questionable and in a lot of cases very misleading and false.

It is quite shameful how these industries are just promoting their stuff to just make money and they make an absolute fortune, what is even worse is how heavy handed they get when questioned about the credibility of their research and the science behind their claims.

I personally have spent probably a small fortune in the past on various books and vitamins from these so called professionals only to find out that their claims are wildy unsubstantiated and false.  

Trust is an important factor here when it comes to listening to people who appear to be professionals giving advice which in fact could damage your health.  It really is easy not to trust the large pharmaceuticals but not to easy for some to not trust the nutritionists who frighten people with dodgy facts about diet today.  If we all took the advice of one nutritionist we would be rattling down the road with all the pills they advise to take.

What I think is brilliant though is that people are waking up to the spin put out from the media and these industries and asking for evidence to support their claims.  

I work in the spiritual world too which I also believe needs a clean up from all the misinformation out there designed to get people to part with their cash.  We might not like what rises to the surface but would’nt we want to know the truth?

Actually this was brought to my attention over the past few weeks when clients or people I teach said they didn’t want to know the truth as they were happy to stay in their bubbles of ignorance.   One friend said “I feel more comfortable with what I believe than the truth”.

Eventually we will all want to know the truth and there will always be people who want to stay in there bubbles which is fair enough,  they cannot stay there for too long as the truth always beckons.

I would really recommend giving the book Bad Science a read as it really does open you eyes to how science is manipulated to make us believe in the manipulators agenda.
